Beggar's rehabilitation

Since ancient times, begging in human society has been going on. Its history is also ancient in the subcontinent. Begging extends due to exploitation and deprivation of British and Pakistani periods, river corrosion, poverty, diseases, illiteracy, etc.  At present, there has been a great deal of begging due to a group of people reluctant to work and a group of selfish using it as a tool for the purpose of earning money.  Begging is a social disorder. This is not a recognized profession. The social and economic development of Bangladesh has taken place. Bangladesh has promoted to the list of developing countries from LDC locations. It is the time to release the country from the shame of begging.

 

The Ministry of Social Welfare has taken up the program on "Rehabilitation and Alternative Employment for the  People Engaged in Begging” in order to implement government's commitment to poverty alleviation and prevent people from abusive occupation like beggary in the country, for the rehabilitation and alternative employment of the beggars by using government's revenue sector. Program activities started from August / 2010. Beggar rehabilitation program started in 2010 but it did not get much widespread. The present-day government is very sincere about the elimination of social evils like begging forever. Considering this matter, for the first time in 2017-2018, money is sent in 58 districts of the country for beggars rehabilitation and alternative employment. From the beginning to the 2021-2022 fiscal year, the details of the allocation and expenditure are given below
